Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Another Indonesian peacekeeper serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) died on Friday morning (April 24) local time, a UN spokesman has said.
Private Rico Pramudia succumbed to wounds sustained in the March 29 incident, when a projectile hit his position in southern Lebanon during ongoing hostilities between Israeli zionist and Hezbollah.
“The secretary-general extends his deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of 31-year-old Corporal Rico Pramudia, from Indonesia, as well as to the government and people of his country,” Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said at a daily press briefing.
Dujarric added that another incident over the weekend also claimed the life of Indonesian peacekeeper Fahrizal Rambe. Initial findings from the investigation indicate that a shell fired from an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Merkava tank struck a UNIFIL position, killing Rambe.
“The Secretary-General reiterates his call on all parties to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law and ensure the safety and security of UN personnel, as well as the inviolability of UN property and assets at all times,” Dujarric said.
To date, six peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL have been killed and several others seriously injured amid the latest clashes between Hezbollah and the zionist. “These incidents are unacceptable and must stop,” he stressed.
“We have called on the parties concerned to ensure these cases are investigated and, if necessary, prosecuted by national authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure accountability. Attacks on UN peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law,” Dujarric noted.
