Bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Indonesia, established in 1963, continues to grow steadily. Last October, Indonesia’s Vice Foreign Minister Matta paid a working visit to Algiers, where both sides discussed potential collaboration in trade, energy, and industry.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) — The Embassy of Algeria in Jakarta commemorated the 71st anniversary of the Algerian Revolution on November 3, 2025, with a diplomatic reception held at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, attended by Indonesian officials, foreign ambassadors, and members of the Algerian community.

In his speech, Algerian Ambassador to Indonesia Ousmane Abdelouahab highlighted the historical significance of the Algerian Revolution, which began on November 1, 1954, and symbolized the nation’s struggle for independence, freedom, and dignity.

“After a long struggle and enormous sacrifices, the Algerian people regained their freedom and restored sovereignty throughout the national territory,” the Ambassador stated.

He also recalled Indonesia’s early support for Algeria’s independence movement, particularly President Soekarno’s decision in 1955 to invite representatives of Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN) to the Asian–African Conference in Bandung, an act he described as “a mark of solidarity that will never be forgotten.”

The event was attended by Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry Rosan Perkasa Roeslani and Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, representing the government of Indonesia, along with members of parliament, ambassadors, and heads of mission.

Economic transformation and foreign policy

In his speech Ambassador Ousmane emphasized Algeria’s ongoing efforts to build a strong and diversified economy under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The country, he said, continues to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons while exploring its vast potential in energy, mining, agriculture, and industry.

He further noted that Algeria’s foreign policy, shaped by its revolutionary values, remains committed to respect for international law, multilateral cooperation, and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Referring to Algeria’s current mandate as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Ousmane underlined his country’s dedication to promoting international peace and security and supporting just causes worldwide.

Partnership with ASEAN and Indonesia

In July 2025, Algeria officially signed the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Kuala Lumpur, marking a milestone in the establishment of institutional relations between Algeria and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

“The signing of this act marks the official launch of a partnership between Algeria and ASEAN, in line with the vision of President Tebboune to strengthen relations with major Asian blocs,” the ambassador said.

Bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Indonesia, established in 1963, continues to grow steadily. Last October, Indonesia’s Vice Foreign Minister Matta paid a working visit to Algiers, where both sides discussed potential collaboration in trade, energy, and industry.

The Ambassador mentioned that Indonesian companies, including Pertamina and Pupuk Indonesia, have expressed strong interest in investing in Algeria, while the North African nation views Indonesia as an increasingly attractive economic partner.

Before concluding, Ambassador Ousmane congratulated the Algerian community in Indonesia, encouraging them to remain active as a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

“Long live Algeria, glory to our martyrs,” he concluded, to warm applause from the guests.

The evening ended with a reception celebrating the enduring ties between Algeria and Indonesia, reflecting their shared values of independence, solidarity, and mutual respect.
