Capturing EV market boom, Indonesia prepares skilled human resources for the 'Green Jobs' sector

Data available at GAIKINDO (Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries) shows a significant increase in electric vehicle sales in Indonesia, from around 10,000 units in 2022 to more than 100,000 units in 2025.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Ministry of Manpower continues to prepare a competent workforce to fill the need for green jobs in Indonesia.

This strategic step was taken in response to the significant surge in the electric vehicle (EV) market, which has grown rapidly in recent years.

Deputy Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, stated that the transformation to a green economy is no longer an option, but rather an inevitability.

He also assessed the growth of the EV sector as a crucial pillar in the future green economy jobs ecosystem.

Afriansyah stated that, based on data available at GAIKINDO that electric vehicle sales in Indonesia are showing a very significant upward trend, from around 10,000 units in 2022 to more than 100,000 units in 2025.

"The rapid market growth over the past three years has certainly had a direct impact on the need for a workforce competent in electric-based automotive technology, digitalization, and skills supporting the green industry," the Deputy Minister of Manpower said at the Hyundai EV Ecosystem Tour in Indonesia’s sub district of Cikarang, Bekasi district, West Java province, Tuesday (May 5).

Afriansyah explained that, as part of realizing the Asta Cita and the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045, the Ministry of Manpower under President Prabowo Subianto's administration is committed to strategic efforts to develop quality human resources. Asta Cita is the eight main visions and missions of the government of Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to realize and Advanced Indonesia towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.

One way that is being done is through close collaboration with industry partners such as PT Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI).

The Deputy Minister also expressed special appreciation to PT HMMI for its significant contribution to vocational education.

"In 2023, PT HMMI provided a grant of five vehicles for the development of automotive vocational training at BBPVP ( ) in Bandung city, West Java probince. This is a concrete example of strategic collaboration that we hope will be followed by other companies," he explained.

This collaboration is considered a strategic step to improve human resource competency while simultaneously opening up opportunities for professional employment in the automotive sector for the community.

"Synergy among the government, industry, and training institutions is key to Indonesia's ability to create a productive workforce ready to face future challenges in the green jobs sector," he remarked.
