Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The volume of cargo transportation served through 15 airports under the state-owned airport management company Angkasa Pura (AP) I during May 2022 reached 32,819 tons, an increase of 9.8 percent compared to that in May 2021 which served 29,951 tons of cargos.

This figure consists of domestic cargo transportation weighing 30,153 tons, an increase of 7.57 percent compared to that in May 2021 which served 28,031 tons. Meanwhile, international cargo transportation was recorded at 2,666 tons, an increase of 39 percent compared to that in May 2021 which served 1,919 tons of cargos.

"The cargo traffic at the 15 airports we manage has continued to show a positive trend in recent years," AP I President Director Faik Fahmi said on Wednesday (June 22).

This increase, according to him, is closely related to changes in people's consumption patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic from those who usually shop directly or offline to online through e-commerce platforms.

Faik added that the increase in the cargo volume was also driven by a rise in international flight traffic at several airports managed by AP I.

The AP I data show that the largest cargo volume during May 2022 was recorded at Jayapura’s Sentani Airport, Papua province, reaching 9,220 tons, an increase of 54 percent compared to that in the previous year which served 5,991 tons of cargos, followed by Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi province which served 6,936 tons of cargos, an increase of 157 percent compared to the previous year which served 2,702 tons.

AP I targets to serve at least 451,024 tons of cargos by the end of 2022, an increase of four percent compared to that in 2021 which served 433,904 tons, Faik said.
