Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – As many as 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Japan will arrive in Indonesia on July 1, 2021.

The aid was the result of intensive communications between Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and her Japanese counterpart, according to a written press statement from the Indonesian ministry on Monday regarding the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bari, Italy.

"Regarding the issue of vaccines and medicines for COVID-19, I have been in intensive communications recently with the Indian Foreign Minister and the Japanese Foreign Minister," said Retno.

“My communications with the Japanese Foreign Minister focused on the issue of dose sharing vaccine. As a result of the intensive communications and in other meetings with the Japanese Foreign Minister, Japan will donate around 2 million doses of ready-to-use vaccine for Indonesia," she said.

The second batch doses of vaccine against the corona virus from Japan was expected to arrive in Indonesia in mid-July 2021.

Retno added that in the meeting with the Japanese Foreign Minister ahead of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting, she also explored cooperation in the field of therapeutic medicines.

"The Japanese Foreign Minister will soon see the possibility of cooperation in providing therapeutic medicines that Indonesia needs at this time," she said.

The G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting was held on June 29, 2021, in Matera, about 424 kilometers south of Italy’s capital city of Rome.
