Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s flight carrier Garuda Indonesia has inaugurated a direct flight cargo service route from Semarang (Central Java province) to Singapore.

The service was inaugurated by Garuda Indonesia’s President Director Irfan Setiaputra and Central Java’s Governor Ganjar Pranowo at Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang city on Thursday (Jan. 13).

Irfan said this flight service is part of the company's ongoing efforts to optimize  its cargo business line.

"Optimizing business by expanding the international flight networks specifically for cargo is in line with Garuda's commitment to support national export commodities’ competitiveness through direct cargo shipments from the producers’ origin," Irfan said in a statement received here on Thursday.

Garuda Indonesia’s cargo service transports various leading commodities from Central Java province, including fishery and agricultural products, as well as other goods produced by micro, small and medium enterprises.

Garuda's cargo flight uses Boeing B737-800NG with a carrying capacity of up to 12 tons.

The cargo service on the Semarang-Singapore route is available once a week from Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang.

Earlier, Garuda Indonesia had provided cargo flight networks of Surabaya (East Java province) – Makassar (South Sulawesi province) – Hong Kong; Denpasar (Bali province) – Hong Kong; and Manado (North Sulawesi province) – Narita (Japan).
