Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Artificial Intelligence technology will be applied at the Grand Mosque in Makkah to serve pilgrims during this year's hajj season, said the General Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Sheikh Abdurrahman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais at the launch of operational plan for hajj, Wednesday (June 30).

Sheikh Al-Sudais explained that the latest artificial intelligence techniques are used to provide sterilized Zamzam water bottles, and smart robots will be operated to distribute them to pilgrims according to the precautionary controls and procedures, Saudi Gazette reported.

In addition, the presidency will provide more than 800 manual and electric vehicles, single or multiple to assist the movement of the elderlies and those with special needs within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards.

The presidency has also prepared a number of small rooms for prayer to be adapted for the elderly and people with special needs, in addition to special toilets for them, and an electronic application under the name “movement” to request transportation services inside the Grand Mosque.

There are also more than 3,000 women working in the Presidency to serve female pilgrims at the Grand Mosque at the highest levels.

As the COVID-19 pandemic still hitting the world, the Saudi government has decided to limit the number of pilgrims for hajj 1442 hijri/2021 to 60,000 people.

This number includes citizens and foreigners living in the kingdom.
