As many as 50 percent of Indonesian pilgrims will stone the jamarat from midnight to 06.00 a.m. at local time.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued a schedule for the jamarat stoning ritual, adjusting to the air temperature in Saudi Arabia, which is currently high.

The new schedule for stoning from the Saudi ministry was confirmed by the chair of Indonesia’s Hajj Organizing Committee, Arsyad Hidayat, at the Indonesian Hajj Affairs Office in Jeddah on Wednesday (June 29), according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The Saudi ministry determined that the ritual of stoning the jamrat Aqabah on 10 Dhul Hijjah was carried out from the early hours of the morning until 04.30 a.m.  local time.

Pilgrims can also perform the stoning starting at 04.00 p.m. or after Asr time until 09.00 p.m.

According to Arsyad, pilgrims must consider the temperature in the Holy Land which is currently very high. "It would be better and beneficial if it is performed at the time I have mentioned," he said.

The timing of the stoning is also made on Tashreeq Days, which is 11-13 Dhul Hijjah.

As many as 50 percent of the Indonesian pilgrims will stone the jamarat from midnight until 06.00 a.m., while the others will perform the ritual from 05.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.

Data from the Indonesian Hajj Affairs Office show that as of the evening of June 28, 2022, as many as 78,839 Indonesian regular pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia, both arriving via Madinah Airport and Jeddah's King Abdul Aziz International Airport.

Meanwhile, as many as 45,537 of Indonesian pilgrims who departed in the first batch and landed at Madinah’s Prince Mohammad bin Abdul Aziz Airport have been already in Makkah.

Stoning

Stoning the jamarat – three stone structures situated in Mina, which symbolically represent the locations where satans repeatedly attempted to dissuade Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) from carrying out the command of Allah ﷻ – is one of the rituals in the hajj pilgrimage that is performed on Tashreeq Days, namely the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

The sequence of stoning is starting from the Jamarat-al-Ula, Jamarat-al-Wusta, and Jamarat-al-Kubra.

In the hajj fiqh agreed upon by the scholars, the time of stoning is after the zawal (the sun slips to the west) until the sun sets. However, the stoning is still valid if it is conducted before the zawal or at night, under certain conditions.

Pilgrims throw the three jamarat, each with seven pebbles collected from Muzdalifah or elsewhere, without having to wash them first.
