Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – A team from Indonesian Embassy in Bucharest on Wednesday (Oct 7) visited Romanian state-owned defense company ROMARM in Cugir (about 370 kilometers northwest of the Romania’s capital of Bucharest) to explore defense cooperation.

Cugir is a production center for firearms, both long and short barrels, as well as ammunition to meet the needs of Romanian national defense and civilians, according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Indonesia Window here on Thursday.

The Indonesian Embassy team visited two ROMARM subsidiaries, namely, Fabrica de Arme and Uzina Mecanica.

During the visit the team was welcomed by the State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Development, Iulian Cristian Simu, who was very enthusiastic about establishing further cooperation with Southeast Asian countries.

Currently, Romania is looking for many partners in expanding its defense industry, including cooperation on technology transfer, capacity building, and weapons based on special requests.

Some of the superior weapons for infantry produced by Fabrica de Arme and Uzina Mecanica include submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns and pistols.

ROMARM produces two types of ammunition, namely, those based on NATO’s and Russian standards.

ROMARM’s ammunitions have high accuracy in velocity, and have been tested in Sweden.

On that occasion, Indonesian state-owned enterprise specialising in military and commercial products Pindad also explored cooperation on technology transfer with ROMARM.
