Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia has recently exported domestically made electric motorcycles called Gesits to Senegal.

The first export of electric motorcycles produced by WIKA Industri Manufaktur (WIMA) was a follow-up to a promotional event for Gesits carried out by the Indonesian Embassy in Dakar on June 8, 2021 at the Promenade de Thiessois, Thiès.

Indonesian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Senegal, Dindin Wahyudin, virtually witnessed the release of Gesits to Senegal organized by WIMA.

In his remarks, Ambassador Dindin said that the maiden shipment of Gesits to Senegal was not only the first step in exporting Indonesian products to this Central African country, but was also expected to be a driving factor for Indonesia's electric motorcycle exports to other African countries.

The opportunity of Gesits export to the West African region is still wide open. One potential market is Ivory Coast. The government has announced that it would stop importing fossil-fueled motorcycles in the near future.

In addition, the Indonesian Ambassador expressed his appreciation to all parties that played roles in the export of Gesits to Senegal, including WIKA, WIMA, and LNP companies.

Appreciation was also given to Ndiaye Transport, as a pioneer of modern motorbike taxi services in Thies City, as well as the first Gesits motorbike user in Senegal.

Gesits' first export of a single-crate container and spare parts was expected to arrive in Senegal in late November 2021.

The arrival of Gesits will be promoted by the Indonesian Embassy in Dakar at the largest trade show in Senegal (FIDAK) in early December 2021, which will be participated in by local people and potential buyers from other countries, especially in West Africa.
