Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - Indonesia has opened its first honorary consul office in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean region to enhance cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade sectors, protect the interests of Indonesia, and provide services to Indonesian citizens in the country.

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Colombia, concurrently Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Christopher and Nevis, Priyo Iswanto, inaugurated and took the oath of office of Faron Tenyson Lawrence as the first Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Basseterre, on Tuesday (Sep 17), according to a report by the Government News Network (JPP) quoted by Indonesia Window here, Friday.

Faron T. Lawrence is a resident of St. Kitts and Nevis who is also a businessman and the Head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the country.

St. Kitts and Nevis are a two-island nation in the Caribbean region with a population of 55,345 and per capita income of US$17,090.

The tie between St. Kitts and Nevis, and Indonesia is relatively young, started with the establishment of diplomatic relations on January 30, 2014.

The bilateral relations continue to develop with trade value in 2018 increased by US$1 million compared to that in 2017 amounted to US$801 thousand.

The two countries also collaborate on training and capacity building. Students from the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis are also invited to study in Indonesia.
