Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia ranks 11th of 11 countries in Asia and the Pacific in the latest health index that measures progress towards personalized healthcare.

Personalized healthcare is the process of taking into account of patient’s unique characteristics such as clinical history and risk factors to provide them with personalized care and treatments.

Patients who suffered a broad category of disease were treated with the same medicines, leaving physicians to puzzle over why they worked for some people and not others.

In the Future Proofing Healthcare report from multinational healthcare company Roche, Indonesia is in the 11th place with a score of 29, just below India with a score of 36.

Meanwhile, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan were in the top three, scoring 71, 67 and 64, respectively.

The index measures the readiness of 11 health systems in Asia and the Pacific, which includes Australia, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and New Zealand, in adopting personalized healthcare that allows appropriate care with each patient's condition at the right time.

The assessment was carried out by a panel of 15 leading health care experts across Asia and the Pacific, during a webinar entitled "Building a long-term sustainable and personal health care system, held in Singapore on January 28, 2021.

The personalized health care index measures the performance of 27 different indicators across four vital categories, namely policy context, health information, personalized technology and health services.

In the health information indicator, Indonesia ranks 11th with a score of 34. This indicator takes into account the data, infrastructure and technical expertise that drive personalized health care.

In health services, Indonesia ranks 9th with a score of 36. This indicator covers planning, organizing and delivering services related to personalized health care.

Under the personalized technology indicator, Indonesia is ranked 9th with a score of 30. This indicator takes into account devices, applications, platforms and cost reimbursement structures that encourage personalized healthcare based on stakeholder needs.

Meanwhile, in a policy context covering policies, frameworks, partnerships, people and drivers that facilitate personalized health care, Indonesia comes in 11th with a score of 16.
