Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian government has confirmed its readiness to serve as co-chair for the COP (Conference of Parties) 26 agenda, the United Nations Climate Change Conference Forest, Agriculture and Commodity Trade (FACT) Dialogue, with the UK.

The statement was made by Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto at a virtual meeting with British Pacific and Environment Minister Zac Goldsmith on Wednesday (March 31).

On that occasion, Airlangga appreciated the UK’s recognition of Indonesia's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of climate change.

He also hoped that the two countries could play a role in producing recommendations that are useful for all parties.

In the FACT dialogue, Indonesia will be represented by Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry Alue Dohong.

“Indonesia is willing to play a role in the meeting as co-chair. However, we reiterate that it is important for us to have the same vision and understanding in order to achieve mutual benefits," Airlangga said.

He emphasized that Indonesia is at the forefront and very committed to implementing the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) which has been decided in the Paris Agreement.

Through the NDC, Indonesia has made a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 29 percent on its own efforts, and 41 percent with international supports by 2030.

The meeting was the beginning to welcome British Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Dominic Raab's visit to Indonesia on April 6-8, 2021.

Raab was scheduled to extend an invitation to Indonesian President Joko Widodo to attend the COP26 Session in Glasgow Scotland in November 2021.
