Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - Indonesia and Singapore agree to enhance bilateral cooperation in the energy transition sector, according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources received by Indonesia Window here on Wednesday.

It was confirmed in a virtual meeting between Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, and Singaporean Minister in the Prime Minister's Office cum Second Minister for Trade and Industry dan Second Minister for Manpower, Tan See Leng, on Monday (Oct 26).

At the meeting, Arifin reiterated that international cooperation is needed to support the energy transition.

"The bilateral meeting with Singapore is expected to further enhance cooperation in facing the challenges of the energy transition," he added.

The two ministers agreed to strengthen cooperation in developing the energy transition, one of which is to develop on geothermal potentials in Indonesia’s Sumatra.

In addition, a vital bilateral cooperation in the energy sector is related to gas supply for Singapore.

Currently, Singapore has various investments in Indonesia in the oil and gas, electricity, mineral and coal sectors, as well as renewable energy development.

Minister Tan expressed his appreciation for Minister Arifin Tasrif's participation in the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2020.

At the regional level, Singapore served as the chairman of the Regional Energy Policy and Planning Sub Sector Network (REPP-SSN) which is responsible for preparing the Second Phase of ASEAN Energy Cooperation Action Plan 2021-2025.

The cooperation document will be launched by the ASEAN Energy Ministers at the 38th meeting in November 2020.

REPP-SSN will also launch the sixth ASEAN Energy Outlook, which is developed based on energy policies and targets of the ASEAN member countries.

The document will be the main source for energy information, analysis and projections in the region, and provide in-depth insights into ASEAN trends on energy supply and consumption.
