Indonesia’s Embassy in Damascus is active in holding various cultural activities in Syria, including an Indonesian Language Course and an Indonesian textile exhibition which this time carried the theme ‘Tenun’ meaning weaving.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s Embassy in Damascus in collaboration with the Al-Assad National Library which is under the auspices of the Syrian Ministry of Culture held a series of activities in an effort to promote Indonesian culture in Damascus, Syria, on Sunday (July 23).

The series of activities included the Friends of Indonesia Forum, the Closing of the Indonesian Language Course and the Opening of the Indonesian Weaving Exhibition, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a written statement quoted by Indonesia Window, Tuesday.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Syria, Wajid Fauzi, in his remarks conveyed the importance of cultural elements in strengthening relations between the two countries’ peoples and the bilateral ties in various fields.

The Indonesian Embassy in Damascus is thus active in holding various cultural activities in Syria, including an Indonesian Language Course and an Indonesian textile exhibition which this time carried the theme of ‘Tenun’ meaning weaving.

Ambassador Wajid also announced a writing contest to get aspirations and opinions of the Syrian people regarding the good friendship between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Syria’s Minister of Culture, Lubanah Mshaweh, in her remarks, congratulated the participants of the Indonesian Language Course who have taken the course at the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus.

Minister Lubanah also appreciated the Indonesian Embassy's efforts to actively hold culture-themed activities which are expected to increase synergy and cooperation between Indonesia and Syria besides benefiting the two countries’ peoples.

Indonesia’s Embassy in Damascus has been holding the Indonesian language course for the 8th batch from June 14 to July 16, 2023. A total of 16 participants successfully completed the course, including those who are prospective recipients of the 2023 scholarship under the developing countries partnership scheme.

The series of events were attended by the Minister of Culture of Syria, the Minister of Education of Syria, the wife of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria, Syrian government officials, ambassadors and diplomatic corps of different countries, alumni of the Indonesian Language Course, alumni of Indonesian scholarship recipients, and friends of Indonesia.

The Weaving Exhibition is scheduled to take place until Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the Exhibition Hall of Al Assad National Library.
