Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s sugar factory in Bombana district, Southeast Sulawesi province, which was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Thursday, is able to produce 800-1,200 tons of white crystal sugar per day.

In his remarks at the inauguration ceremony, the head of state said the factory, which was built three years ago, has started its production.

In its operation, the sugar factory in Bombana and cane plantations can absorb a maximum of 15,000 workers.

“This is a form of courage to open an investment, a business. This is what we should appreciate and respect," the president said.

Furthermore, he pointed out that currently the national demand for sugar reaches 5.8 million tons per year, while the domestic production capacity is only 2.1 million tons.

The remaining sugar demand still has to be met from imports.

The sugar factory in Bombana is operated by PT Prima Alam Gemilang with modern technology which is supported by automation system.

The factory has been in operation since last August with a sugarcane processing capacity of 8,000 TCD (tons of cane per day), and can be increased to 12,000 TCD.
