Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s Kertajati Airport area in West Java’s district of Majalengka will provide Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, as well as be optimized for cargo services.

"We know that the airport business is not just passengers. There are passengers, there are cargos, and there are maintenance services,” said West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil after attending a limited meeting chaired by Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Jakarta Presidential Palace here on Monday (March 29).

The West Java governor explained President Joko Widodo's directives to move PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Indonesian aerospace company) and Pindad (Indonesian state-owned enterprise specializing in military and commercial products), which are currently located in Bandung, can be moved to the Kertajati area.

"The president directed PT DI and Pindad to also be moved to the Kertajati aero city area, so that the PT DI and PT Pindad areas in Bandung can be improved for businesses that are relevant to their geographic areas, which may be tourism," he said.

Ridwan Kamil added that the Cisumdawu (Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan) toll road, which connects Bandung and the Kertajati Airport and is expected for completion in December 2021, will also be optimized for the airport’s operations.

"God willing, what gives a sense of optimism is that after the Cisumdawu (toll road) is completed in December, the airport and its areas will develop rapidly," he said.

In addition to MRO facilities and cargo services, the Kertajati Airport is also expected to serve Hajj and Umrah flights, especially for people of West Java and eastern Central Java.
