Iran expressed its appreciation for the support of the Indonesian president to mediate in the conflict with the U.S. and Israel.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Iranian government expressed hope that Indonesia could play an active role in pushing for a peaceful resolution following the deadly attack launched by the United States (US) and Israel on Iranian territory.
In a written press release from the Iranian Embassy in Jakarta on March 1 2026, the Iranian government expressed its appreciation for the support of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to carry out mediation in the conflict.
"The United States and the Israeli zionist regime on Saturday morning, February 28, 2026, in another act of aggression, launched attacks on civilian locations, including schools and targeted Iranian citizens who were fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, while violating the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the statement said.
In this brutal attack, an elementary school in Minab district was completely destroyed and nearly 200 girls died.
The Iranian government also stressed "the importance of taking a firm stance by Indonesian officials in condemning the aggression and crimes of the United States and the Israeli zionist regime".
The combined attack is said to have caused casualties and significant damage. Tehran views the action as a violation of international law and state sovereignty.
It went on to say that US hostility towards Iran is nothing new, in fact it has roots going back seven decades. U.S. intervention, aggression and hostility towards Iran began with the August 19, 1953 coup that overthrew the government of Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh, prime minister at the time.
Furthermore, the US carried out a number of offensive actions against Iran, including imposing political and economic sanctions in the early days of Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979, the assassination of one of Iran's senior military commanders on the direct orders of President Donald Trump in January 2020 in Baghdad (Iraq), and support for attacks by Israel against the Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, Syria, in April 2024.
Another U.S’ action taken against Iran was hijacking the peaceful protests of the Iranian people in January 2026 into violent riots, causing the deaths of 3,117 people.
Saturday's attack killed the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
