Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - To strengthen economic resilience the use of renewable energy resources is expected to reach 13.4 percent in the national energy mix by 2020.

"The main national priority is to strengthen economic resilience for qualified growth," Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif recently said when delivering a five-year work program to the House of Representatives here.

A press release from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources quoted by Indonesia Window here on Friday mentioned that the renewable energy resources would be used in stages.

In 2021 the renewable energy in the energy mix is ​​expected to reach 14.5 percent, 15.7 percent in 2022 and 17.9 percent in 2023. Meanwhile, in 2024 the use of renewable energy will reach 19.5 percent.

Arifin hoped that several renewable energy-based power plants would operate this year.

"We are expecting the capacity of power plants to increase by 700 megawatts," the minister said.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources expected that the capacity of renewable energy-based power plants would reach 10,843 MW.

Furthermore, the capacity of green energy power plant will increase 1,000 MW to 11,843 MW in 2021, then to 13,743 MW in 2022, 15,543 MW in 2023, and 19,243 MW in 2024.

According to Arifin, the renewable energy is used for power plants and fuel as well.

In 2020 the used of biofuels would become 10 million kilolitres (kL) and is expected to increase periodically by 10.2 million kL in 2021, 14.2 million kL in 2022, 14.6 million kL in 2023 and 17.4 million kL by 2024.
