PLN’s President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that by the end of this year on Java island there would be an additional electricity supply of around six gigawatts (GW), while the additional demand was only about 800 megawatts (MW), making a difference of 5 GW.

\"We are building an energy storage system that is able to distribute and store this energy for a long time and is still economical,\" Darmawan said here on Wednesday (Feb. 23).

PLN will prioritize clean electricity from renewable sources for the energy storage system.

The company is now collaborating with state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and state-owned fertilizer company Pupuk Indonesia to build a green industrial cluster.

The area will later be programmed to develop renewable energy, both from ammonia and hydrogen, apply carbon capture and storage technology (CCUS), and reduce the use of high-emission primary energies.
