Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and Dharma Wanita Persatuan (an Indonesian organization whose members are wives of civil servants) held the Cooking Demo at the embassy on June 12, 2023.

The Cooking Demo was held in support of the Indonesia Spice up the World program, which aims to promote Indonesian culinary delights to the world, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a written statement on Tuesday.

The Cooking Demo shows how to make and serve Indonesian typical foods including Sate Lilit Sambal Matah and Cireng Bumbu Rujak, presented by Chef Nova Akbar and the team.

Cooking Demo tersebut menampilkan cara membuat dan menyajikan Sate Lilit Sambal Matah dan Cireng Bumbu Rujak, yang dipersembahkan oleh Chef Nova Akbar dan tim.

Chef Nova is the chairman of the Indonesian Chef Association in Brunei Darussalam and currently works at one of the leading hotels in the neighboring country.

The one-day activity also featured a mini bazaar promoting Indonesian products including batik (Indonesia’s traditional cloth), coffee, spices and packaged snacks.

In order to promote Indonesian culture, the event showed the Pendet dance and live music presented by an Indonesian musician, M. Ade Irawan.

A total of 75 invited guests including female ambassadors and wives of ambassadors from friendly countries have attended the event.

In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei, those of the International Women's Club Brunei, figures representing the Brunei Armed Forces and several Indonesian women's community leaders in the country also witnessed a series of activities.

Apart from Sate Lilit (grilled meat) and Cireng (fried starch), the invitees also had the opportunity to enjoy a number of Indonesian specialties, including soto (Indonesian traditional soup), dumplings, fried noodles and snacks such as gethuk (cassava-based cake), pastels and corn fritters.

One of the invitees was the wife of the Ambassador of Timor Leste who stated that she was amazed at the way of serving Sate Lilit which according to her was very unique and the taste of Cireng was very good.

This promotional activity is expected to increase the awareness of the international community on the richness and taste of Indonesian culinary products, which in turn can increase the presence of Indonesian culinary products abroad.
