The role of Indonesia and Turkiye as major countries in the Islamic world and leaders of the Global South is important in overcoming global challenges.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of the role of Indonesia and Turkey as major countries in the Islamic world and leaders of the Global South, in overcoming global challenges.

"We must become positive forces and important forces in the Islamic world. We must also appear, take the responsibility as leaders of the Global South, and become strategic partners in the global order," the head of state said in his press statement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after their meeting in Ankara, Thursday (10/4).

President Prabowo made a state visit to the Republic of Turkiye, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, as a reciprocal visit to President Erdoğan's visit to Indonesia last February.

He expressed his appreciation for his Turkish counterpart's visit to Indonesia to attend the first meeting of the High Level Cooperation Council forum between the two countries.

Prabowo considered that the openness and encouragement from President Erdoğan and the Turkish government have strengthened bilateral relations that have existed for 75 years.

"We have had diplomatic relations for 75 years. And now we are determined to work together more importantly because we have the same background and vision," the Indonesian president said.

During his visit to the country located between Europe and Asia, the head of state also had the honor of delivering a speech before the Turkish Parliament.

President Prabowo considered the honor as an important moment that he personally remembers.

"This is my first speech before a parliament outside Indonesia. Actually, I was very nervous earlier, but thank God I was able to finish my speech in a relatively short time," he said, adding that the speech he delivered was not just a formality, but was delivered straight from the heart.

President Prabowo expressed his admiration for Turkiye civilization and culture and hoped that the role of Indonesia and Turkiye would be raised further in maintaining world peace.

"Turkey as the successor to the Ottoman civilization is an inspiration for the Indonesian people. Therefore, we are very happy with this good cooperation. We are sure that in the future, Turkey and Indonesia can make a big contribution to world peace," he said.
