The training program titled ‘Building the Capacity of Imams and Preachers’ is a highly important initiative for enhancing coordination and cooperation in countering terrorism and extremism.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The training program titled ‘Building the Capacity of Imams and Preachers’ was launched on Monday (May 5), in the capital city of Malé.Organized by the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) under its strategic initiative ‘Wasata’, the training program brings together a select group of imams, preachers, and orators from across the Maldives.The launch ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of Islamic Affairs of the Maldives; Mr. Abdulla Rafiu, Minister of Sports; and Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, Secretary-General of IMCTC.The Minister of Islamic Affairs stated during the launch ceremony that the program, organized by IMCTC in cooperation with the National Counter Terrorism Centre of the Republic of Maldives (NCTC), is a highly important initiative for enhancing coordination and cooperation in countering terrorism and extremism.He noted that terrorism is an ideological disease that must be confronted through awareness and the promotion of moderation in accordance with the principles of Islam.The Minister of Islamic Affairs expressed his appreciation for the efforts of IMCTC in protecting societies from terrorism and extremist ideologies.He added that under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Republic of Maldives continues its efforts to combat terrorism and extremism. The IMCTC, through its collaboration with member states, is capable of achieving significant progress in this field.The Secretary-General of IMCTC affirmed that the Coalition was established with a clear vision aimed at coordinating international efforts and unifying ranks to strengthen intellectual, media, financial, and military capabilities in countering terrorism.It implements a range of initiatives focused on capacity building and training professionals to enhance the preparedness of entities involved in counterterrorism efforts.He added: “Enhancing cooperation between countries and relevant institutions, intensifying efforts to develop mechanisms for monitoring and tracking terrorist group methods, exchanging information, and building capabilities all contribute to creating a safer and more stable environment”.The Secretary-General further noted that this initiative is part of IMCTC’s broader strategic framework, which includes 15 key initiatives across its four core domains: ideological, media, counter terrorist financing, and military.Through these efforts, the Coalition plans to deliver 90 training programs and 20 awareness and knowledge-based initiatives across its member states, all aimed at building stronger capabilities in the fight against terrorism.The five-day program includes a series of lectures and workshops focused on the propaganda methods used by extremist groups, the fundamentals of impactful public speaking, communication skills, and the concepts of moderation and balance.It also provides a platform for sharing successful preaching experiences.Reporting by Indonesia WindowBagikan
