Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) Abdullah Al-Shamrani on Sunday (June 27) announced the discovery of the remains of a primitive whale dating back to 37 million years ago, in the Al-Jouf region, northern part of the Kingdom.

The Saudi Geological Survey said on its Twitter account that the historic find was the first of its kind, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The discovery shows the ancient geography of marine mammals in the Eocene era (56-33.9 million years ago) in northwestern Saudi Arabia.

Al-Shamrani explained that the historical and important fossils came from the Upper Eocene era which indicated geological conditions and ancient marine environments.
