Bogor, W Java (Indonesia Window) – Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has expected that business circles and trade experts from his country could be involved in development projects being carried out by the Indonesian government on Kalimantan island.

“As the Indonesian government are developing Kalimantan, which is next to Malaysia, namely Sabah and Sarawak, I ask that Malaysian tourists and businesses as well as Malaysian trade experts could be involved in developments in Kalimantan," PM Ismail said at a joint press conference with Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java province, Wednesday (Nov. 10).

Currently, Indonesia is building a number of infrastructures to support the establishment of a new national capital city in East Kalimantan province.

PM Ismail also appreciated the important and strategic relationship in trade and investment between Indonesia and Malaysia that has been running, with a value reaching 14.67 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.

In addition, in the economic sector, Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed to open an international travel corridor in the near future through a travel corridor arrangement.

PM Ismail and President Joko Widodo have agreed to assign the relevant ministers to regulate the opening of travel corridors between the two countries in detail.

According to the PM, Indonesia and Malaysia have agreed to open a travel corridor for Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta and vice versa, and Kuala Lumpur-Denpasar and vice versa.

"We will start with a Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur route, and a Kuala Lumpur-Bali-Kuala Lumpur route. So God willing, if things are accelerated for details, we agreed earlier that we will make a joint statement to announce the opening of the border between Malaysia and Indonesia," PM Ismail said.
