Putin affirms readiness to enhance Indonesia-Russia cooperation

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, said that relations between Russia and Indonesia continue to show a positive trend, especially in line with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, expressed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Indonesia during a meeting with the Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

According to Putin, relations between Russia and Indonesia continue to show a positive trend, especially in line with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Russia and Indonesia have developed very consistently this year as the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat quoted the Russian president as saying.

The Joint Economic Commission is also working well, and economic and trade relations have grown during the first nine months of this year, he said, adding that the value of trade between the two countries increased by 17 percent.

In addition to the economic and trade sectors, Russia also sees prospects for cooperation in the energy sector, including nuclear energy.

The president said Russia is ready to assist if Indonesia decides to involve Russia in the development of civil nuclear technology.

He poined out that there are many prospects in the energy sector, including nuclear energy, noting that Indonesia has related plans, and if Indonesia decides to involve Russia, his country is always ready to assist.

The two leaders also discussed potential cooperation in the industrial and agricultural sectors. President Putin mentioned that the issue of wheat was also discussed with President Prabowo.

In the defense industry sector, the Russian president referred to Indonesia as a traditional partner of his country, highlighting the solid military-technical cooperation, as well as the increasing number of Indonesian military personnel studying at Russian military institutions.

The Russian president also talked about the growing humanitarian and tourism ties, supported by direct flight connectivity and a visa-free policy between citizens of both countries.

Regarding Indonesia's role in the international community, President Putin expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's full membership in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

The president also discussed the possibility of free trade cooperation between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

At the beginning of the meeting, President Putin expressed his condolences for the disasters that have struck several areas in Indonesia.

This was the second meeting between the two leaders this year, following their previous meeting in Saint Petersburg in June 2025.
